What It Is

The Toro Lawn Striping System is a bolt-on roller attachment that creates professional-looking light and dark stripes on your lawn by bending grass blades in alternating directions as you mow. It’s designed for residential use on zero-turn and riding mowers with 42- to 60-inch cutting decks.

Fitment & Compatibility

Before buying, check your mower’s deck size (measure from outside blade tip to outside blade tip) – this system fits Toro TimeCutter, Titan, and Z-Master models with 42", 48", 50", 54", or 60" decks. It is not compatible with walk-behind mowers, tractors, or non-Toro brands without custom fabrication. Confirm your deck has a rear discharge or side discharge (mulching/collection may interfere). Measure the distance from the rear deck edge to the ground; you need at least 4 inches of clearance for the roller bracket. The system uses existing rear deck bolt holes – no drilling required on compatible Toro models.

Key Things to Know

  • Quality: Heavy-duty steel roller with a powder-coated finish; holds up well on flat lawns but can bend if you hit curbs or rocks repeatedly.
  • Installation: Moderate difficulty (20–40 minutes). You’ll need a socket set and may need to remove the mower’s rear discharge chute or bagger bracket. Instructions are clear but require lifting the deck.
  • Common gotchas: The roller adds about 15 lbs of rear weight – can reduce traction on slopes. On 42" decks, striping effect is less pronounced than on wider decks. Grass must be dry; wet grass clumps and ruins stripes.
  • Maintenance: Grease the roller bearings every 25 hours; the roller can rust if left in wet grass.

Should You Buy It

Buy this if you own a compatible Toro zero-turn, want curb-appeal stripes without switching to a lawn tractor, and have a relatively flat, obstacle-free lawn. Skip it if you have a walk-behind, a non-Toro mower, or a bumpy yard where the roller will drag and scalp.
