The Toro Genuine OEM Hitch Kit 79318 is a factory-engineered accessory that adds a towing hitch to select Toro TimeCutter zero-turn mowers, allowing you to pull lawn carts, spreaders, or aerators.
Fitment & Compatibility
This kit only fits Toro TimeCutter models with 42-inch or 50-inch decks (not 54-inch). Compatible models include TimeCutter SS4225, SS5000, Z4200, Z5000, and Z5200. Before buying, verify your mower’s model number (found under the seat or on the frame) and check that your deck size matches. The hitch mounts to the rear frame, so measure the distance between the frame rails—this kit requires a 3.5-inch gap. It is not compatible with TimeCutter MyRIDE models or any other Toro series (e.g., Titan or Z Master). Aftermarket hitches exist for less, but this OEM kit bolts directly to existing holes without drilling.
Key Things to Know
- Installation difficulty: Easy (15–30 minutes). Requires a socket wrench and a 3/8-inch drive. No drilling or welding.
- Weight limit: Rated for 200 lbs towing capacity. Overloading can stress the mower’s frame and void warranty.
- OEM vs aftermarket: Aftermarket hitches often need drilling or adapters. This kit uses factory brackets and bolts, ensuring a clean fit and no interference with the mower’s rollover protection structure (ROPS).
- Common gotcha: The hitch pin (included) is small—buy a spare or use a lockable pin if you tow frequently. The kit does not include a wiring harness for trailer lights.
Should You Buy It
If you own a compatible 42- or 50-inch TimeCutter and need to tow light loads (dethatchers, dump carts, spreaders) without drilling or modifying your mower, this OEM kit is the right choice. It’s overpriced compared to generic hitches, but the bolt-on fit and warranty protection make it worth it for most owners. Skip it if you have a 54-inch deck or need to tow over 200 lbs.
