What It Is

This is a .155-inch square trimmer line designed for heavy-duty clearing of thick weeds, briars, and overgrown grass. The 1 lb. donut spool provides 84 feet of line, intended for use in gas or electric string trimmers that accept .155" gauge line.

Fitment & Compatibility

  • Check your trimmer’s line gauge: .155" is a medium-heavy line. Most residential trimmers use .080"–.095". Only use if your trimmer’s manual specifies .155" or a range (e.g., .130"–.160"). Using too thick a line can overload the motor or damage the head.
  • Spool type: This is a bulk donut (no pre-wound spool). You must hand-wind it onto your trimmer’s empty spool. Not compatible with fixed-line or speed-feed heads unless you cut to length.
  • Brand/Model: Fits any brand (EGO, Stihl, Husqvarna, etc.) as long as the gauge matches. No proprietary EGO-specific adapter needed.
  • OEM vs Aftermarket: Oregon is a reputable aftermarket brand. No compatibility issues versus OEM, but check your warranty terms if using non-OEM line.

Key Things to Know

  • Aggressive cutting: Square edges slice through thick weeds faster than round line, but they wear faster on pavement or rocks.
  • Installation: Requires winding the entire 84 ft onto your spool. Leave 6–8 inches of slack to avoid tangles. Use a line winder or drill attachment to save time.
  • Noise & debris: This line throws more clippings and debris than round line. Wear eye protection.
  • Mower/trimmer type: Not recommended for battery-powered trimmers under 40V—may drain battery quickly or bog the motor.

Should You Buy It

Buy this if you regularly clear heavy brush, tall weeds, or overgrown fence lines with a high-powered gas or 56V+ electric trimmer. Skip it for light lawn edging or if your trimmer specs a thinner line (under .130"). At $29, it’s a good value for rugged duty, but overkill for weekly grass trimming.
