This is a 1/2-inch wide, 104-inch long aramid-fiber reinforced deck belt designed to drive the blades on select John Deere lawn tractors and Sabre mowers. Aramid belts offer higher heat and abrasion resistance than standard rubber belts, making them a durable replacement for OEM part numbers GX20072 and GY20570.
Fitment & Compatibility
Before buying, confirm three things:
- Machine model: Fits John Deere Sabre D100, D110, D120, D130, L110, L111, L118, LA110, LA120, X105, and some X110/X120 variants. Also fits Sabre 1338GS, 1438GS, 1542GS, and 1638HS. Not compatible with X300 series or newer X500 models.
- Deck size: Designed for 38-inch, 42-inch, and 48-inch decks. Measure your deck width—if it’s 54-inch or 60-inch, this belt is too short.
- OEM cross-reference: Replaces John Deere GX20072 and GY20570. If your mower uses a different OEM number (e.g., GY20571), measure belt length—it may be a different size.
Check your current belt’s part number or measure its length (end-to-end, flat) to verify 104 inches. Belt width must be exactly 1/2 inch—wider or narrower will slip or damage pulleys.
Key Things to Know
- Quality vs. price: Aramid construction is stronger than standard rubber but not as tough as Kevlar. Good for residential use; may wear faster under heavy commercial cutting.
- Installation: Requires removing the mower deck and routing around three or four pulleys. Use a belt diagram (often printed on deck or in manual) to avoid misrouting. Tension is set by deck idler spring—no adjustment needed.
- Common gotchas: This belt is directional—check for arrows on the belt surface and install with correct rotation. If your mower uses a separate drive belt for the transmission, this is not it.
- Break-in period: Expect slight stretch after first 1–2 hours of use. Recheck tension and adjust if deck blades slip or belt flaps.
Should You Buy It
Buy this if you need a budget-friendly replacement for a John Deere Sabre or D-series tractor with a 38–48-inch deck and want better durability than a standard rubber belt. Avoid if you have a larger deck (54+ inches), a non-listed model, or need a drive belt for the transmission—this is deck-only. For occasional residential mowing, it’s a solid value.
