What It Is

This Karbay shield kit replaces the left and right side discharge shields (OEM GY21773, GY21084, GX22456, GY21084C) on John Deere 42-inch mower decks. It prevents debris and grass clippings from spraying sideways during operation, directing them downward for safer mulching or bagging.

Fitment & Compatibility

Critical check: This kit fits only John Deere 42-inch (107 cm) stamped steel decks used on select 100-series tractors. Compatible models include: 107S, D100, D105, D110, D120, D125, D130. Also fits L100, L110, L120, L130, and some LX series with the same 42" deck. Not compatible with 48", 54", or any fabricated deck.

Before buying:

  • Measure your deck width (42" edge to edge).
  • Confirm your OEM part numbers: GY21773 (left), GY21084 (right), GX22456, or GY21084C.
  • Kit includes mounting screws—no extra hardware needed.

Key Things to Know

  • Material: Steel with black powder coating—holds up well but can rust if scratches occur. Not heavy-duty.
  • Installation: Easy, 15-20 minutes. Remove two bolts per side, replace shield, reinstall. No drilling or mods needed.
  • Common gotcha: The included screws are slightly shorter than OEM on some decks. If threads don’t catch, reuse original bolts.
  • Fit note: May require slight bending of the shield tab to align with deck mounting holes on older decks (pre-2010).

Should You Buy It

Yes, if your original shields are cracked, missing, or bent and you want a direct, affordable replacement without hunting used OEM parts. It’s not heavy-duty steel, but it works for standard residential mowing. Skip it if you need commercial-grade durability or have a different deck size.
