What It Is

This is a heavy-duty subsoiler/trencher designed to cut a 16-inch deep trench through soil for laying cable, irrigation pipe, or breaking up compacted ground. It mounts to a standard 3-point hitch on tractors, ATVs, or UTVs with a Category 0 or Category 1 hitch.

Fitment & Compatibility

  • Hitch type: Fits Category 0 and Category 1 three-point hitches. Not for zero-turn mowers or riding lawn mowers without a 3-point hitch.
  • Mounting pins: Requires two 7/8-inch pins (not included) for the lower arms and a top link pin (also not included). Check your machine’s hitch pin size before buying.
  • ATV/UTV use: Only if your vehicle has a 3-point hitch attachment (e.g., aftermarket rear hitch kit). Standard ATV receiver hitches won’t work.
  • Tractor size: Best for compact tractors (15–30 HP). Larger tractors may overpower the shank or stress the frame.
  • No deck or model-specific fit – it’s a universal hitch accessory, so compatibility depends solely on your hitch category and pin size.

Key Things to Know

  • Weight & assembly: Weighs about 35 lbs. Assembly required – you’ll need wrenches and a torque wrench to secure the shank and teeth.
  • Replaceable teeth: Comes with two hardened steel teeth. They wear down fast in rocky soil; keep spares on hand.
  • Adjustable depth: The shank can be set to different angles, but the 16-inch max depth is fixed by the shank length. Not adjustable on the fly.
  • Ground clearance: When raised, the shank hangs low – may drag on uneven terrain. Check your machine’s lift height.
  • Common complaint: The included hardware is soft; many users replace bolts with Grade 8 fasteners immediately.

Should You Buy It

Buy this if you have a compact tractor or ATV with a proper 3-point hitch and need a budget-friendly way to dig shallow trenches for landscaping or utility lines. Skip it if you have rocky, clay-heavy soil (the teeth will dull fast) or need a tow-behind trencher for a standard ATV receiver hitch – this won’t fit.
