What It Is

This spindle assembly drives your mower deck blades. It’s designed for John Deere 100-series tractors with 42-inch, 48-inch, or 54-inch Edge, Edge XT, or standard decks. Greased and ready to install, it replaces OEM parts AUC15811, GY20454, and GY20962.

Fitment & Compatibility

Check three things before buying:

  • Deck model: Fits 42” (D105, D110, D130, D140, E100, E130, E140, LA105, LA115, LA145, D100, D125), 48” (D110, D130, D140, E130), and 54” (D140, E140) Edge or Edge XT decks.
  • OEM cross-references: Replaces John Deere GY21098, GY20454, GY20962, and AUC15811. If your original part number is one of these, it’s a drop-in fit.
  • Physical dimensions: Housing is ~5.2” tall, shaft diameter ~0.75”, bolt pattern 3.25” center-to-center on a 4-bolt flange. Measure your old spindle to confirm—especially shaft length and pulley groove width (this one uses a standard 5/8” belt).

Does not fit 60” decks, X300/X500 series, or older 300-series tractors. If your deck has a different bolt pattern or a 1” shaft, this won’t work.

Key Things to Know

  • Quality: Aftermarket but well-reviewed. Bearings are pre-greased and sealed—no maintenance needed. Some users report slightly tighter fit than OEM, so don’t force bolts.
  • Installation: Moderate difficulty. You’ll need a socket set, torque wrench (specs: 30-35 ft-lbs for bolts), and possibly a puller to remove the old spindle. Mark belt routing before disassembly.
  • Common gotchas: The grease fitting is present but not always accessible once installed—pre-grease before mounting. Pulley alignment matters: if blades wobble, check deck leveling, not the spindle. Warranty is typically 90 days; buy from a seller with returns.
  • Cost vs OEM: About half the price of John Deere’s GY21098. Expect 2-3 seasons of normal residential use.

Should You Buy It

Yes, if you own one of the listed 100-series tractors and your spindle is worn (noise, vibration, blade wobble). It’s a solid value for the price—just confirm your deck size and bolt pattern first. Skip it if you need a lifetime part or have a commercial mower.
