What It Is

This is an aftermarket replacement trimmer head designed for DEWALT 20V MAX cordless string trimmers. It’s a bump-feed head pre-wound with 0.080-inch, 20-foot line, meant to replace worn or broken OEM heads on lightweight residential/yard trimming.

Fitment & Compatibility

Check your model number – this head fits DEWALT DCST920, DCST922, DCST925, DCST970, and DCST990. It does not fit DCST972, DCST972X1, or other 60V/60V MAX models.
OEM vs aftermarket – this is a third-party part, not DEWALT branded. It’s designed to be a direct swap, but tolerances can vary.
Installation – uses a standard threaded shaft (M10x1.25 left-hand thread). Verify your trimmer’s shaft thread direction before buying (most DEWALT models are left-hand).
Line spec – the pre-wound 0.080″ line is thin and suitable for light weeds/grass. If you need thicker line (0.095″ or 0.105″), this head won’t accept it.

Key Things to Know

  • Installation is easy – no tools required; it screws on by hand. But left-hand thread means “righty-loosey, lefty-tighty” – turn counterclockwise to tighten.
  • Pre-wound line is short – 20 feet of 0.080″ line lasts about 15–20 minutes of heavy use. You’ll replace it often. Buy bulk line separately.
  • Quality is mixed – some users report the plastic housing cracks after a few months, especially if you bump it against rocks or concrete. Not as durable as OEM.
  • Bump-feed mechanism works – but it can jam if you don’t tap on a firm, flat surface. Avoid tapping on grass or soft ground.

Should You Buy It

This is a budget-friendly option if your OEM head is broken and you need a quick, cheap replacement for light trimming. It’s not for heavy-duty use or commercial work – the thin line and plastic build won’t hold up to thick brush or frequent bump-feeding. If you want reliability and longer line life, spend more on an OEM DEWALT head or a metal-bodied aftermarket unit.
