What It Is

This is a complete aftermarket carburetor replacement kit for Briggs & Stratton Intek single-cylinder engines. It includes the Nikki-style carburetor (OEM #799727) plus an air filter, designed for 14HP to 18HP lawn tractor engines.

Fitment & Compatibility

Before buying, check these three things:

  1. Engine model number – Must be a Briggs & Stratton Intek (not opposed twin or Vanguard). Look for a 14–18HP single-cylinder with OEM carb numbers 799727, 698620, or 794572.
  2. Physical dimensions – This is a side-draft, float-bowl carb with a metal intake elbow. Measure your old carb’s mounting flange width (≈2.5”) and the fuel inlet fitting (5/16” barb). If your engine uses a different air filter housing or choke linkage, this kit may require modification.
  3. Deck size doesn’t matter – This carb fits the engine, not the deck. It works on any tractor brand (John Deere, MTD, Craftsman, etc.) that uses the specified Intek engine.

Key Things to Know

  • Quality is mixed – At $24, this is a budget rebuild. Some units work fine out of the box; others need the float level adjusted or have gasket leaks. Expect to clean out any shipping debris.
  • Installation is moderate – You’ll need basic tools (screwdrivers, socket set) and patience with the choke/throttle linkage. The air filter may not match your original housing perfectly.
  • No gasket kit included – The carb comes with a single mounting gasket, but you might need additional gaskets for the intake elbow or fuel line. Buy a small gasket sheet just in case.
  • Check the fuel line – This carb uses a 5/16” barbed inlet. If your tractor has a 1/4” line or a quick-connect, you’ll need an adapter or new hose.

Should You Buy It

This is a solid budget option if your original carb is clogged, leaking, or unrebuildable and you’re comfortable with minor adjustments. It’s not for perfectionists—expect to tinker with the float and linkage. If you want a guaranteed plug-and-play fit, pay 2–3x more for an OEM Briggs carb.
