What It Is

This Caltric kit replaces the complete spindle assembly (housing, bearings, shaft, and pulley) on 50-inch Toro TimeCutter and ZS/SS series zero-turn mowers. Designed for heavy residential or light commercial use, it restores blade rotation when bearings fail or the spindle seizes.

Fitment & Compatibility

Before buying, confirm your mower has a 50-inch deck (not 42, 54, or 60). This kit fits Toro TimeCutter SW5000, MX5025, ZS5000, SS5000, SS5035, SS5060, and MX5060 models. Cross-reference your OEM part number: it replaces 139-3214 and 121-0751. The spindle housing measures 4.75 inches from mounting flange to pulley base—measure yours to be sure. This is an aftermarket part; Caltric includes three spindles, three pulley assemblies, and hardware. Not compatible with older Toro decks or non-Toro brands.

Key Things to Know

  • Quality vs OEM: Caltric uses sealed bearings and a steel housing. It’s a solid alternative to OEM at roughly half the cost, but some users report slightly shorter bearing life under heavy commercial use.
  • Installation difficulty: Moderate. You’ll need a socket set, impact wrench, and a blade removal tool. Expect 1–2 hours per spindle. Watch for rusted bolts—soak them in penetrating oil first.
  • Common gotcha: The included pulleys may not match OEM belt alignment perfectly. Check belt tension after install; you might need to adjust the idler pulley or shim the spindle slightly.
  • Hardware check: Kit comes with new bolts and washers. Torque spindle bolts to 35–40 ft-lbs; blade bolts to 60–70 ft-lbs. Over-tightening can crack the housing.

Should You Buy It

If you need to replace one or more spindles on a 50-inch Toro TimeCutter or ZS/SS series mower and want to save money over OEM, this kit is a solid choice. It’s best for residential owners or light commercial users who don’t mind a bit of DIY. For heavy daily commercial use, consider OEM spindles for longer lifespan.
