What It Is

This 2-pack of 42-inch replacement mower blades is designed for select Troy-Bilt, Cub Cadet, and Massey Ferguson lawn tractors and zero-turn mowers with 42-inch cutting decks. They fit popular models like the Cub Cadet LT1042, Troy-Bilt Pony, and Super Bronco.

Fitment & Compatibility

  • Deck size must be exactly 42 inches – measure your deck width from blade tip to blade tip (not the mower body).
  • Cross-reference OEM numbers: 942-04308, 742-0616, 942-0616, 942-04126. These are the factory part numbers for many Troy-Bilt/Cub Cadet 42-inch decks.
  • Check your model: Works on Cub Cadet LT1040, LT1042, RZT17, RZT42; Troy-Bilt Pony, Range Rider, Super Bronco; Massey Ferguson 42-inch decks. Not for 46-inch or 50-inch decks.
  • Measure your old blade: Length (center hole to tip) should be ~21 inches for a 42-inch set. Center hole diameter is typically 1 inch (check yours before buying).
  • Aftermarket note: This is a non-OEM blade. It may not have the exact steel thickness or heat treatment as factory blades.

Key Things to Know

  • Installation: Requires a socket wrench (usually 5/8" or 11/16") and a blade removal tool or block of wood to prevent spinning. Always disconnect spark plug first.
  • Sharpness: Blades come sharp but not razor-edged. You may want to sharpen them after first use for a cleaner cut.
  • Balance: Aftermarket blades sometimes need balancing before install. Use a blade balancer to avoid vibration that can damage the spindle.
  • Common gotcha: The center hole may be slightly tight on some spindles. If so, lightly file the hole – do not force it.

Should You Buy It

If you own a 42-inch Troy-Bilt or Cub Cadet lawn tractor and need an affordable replacement set, this is a decent budget option. It’s not as durable as OEM blades but works fine for mowing average lawns. Avoid it if you have a different deck size or need heavy-duty mulching blades for thick, wet grass.
