This is a two-blade belt kit for 48-inch cutting decks on select John Deere lawn tractors. It replaces both the primary deck drive belt (GX21784) and the secondary blade spindle belt (GX21833) in one package.
Fitment & Compatibility
Critical check: This kit only fits 48-inch Edge™ or 48-inch stamped steel decks. It does NOT fit 42-inch, 54-inch, or 60-inch decks.
Confirmed models: John Deere 155C, LA130, LA140, LA145, LA165, D140, D150, D160, X140, X165 (and some X300-series with 48-inch decks). Verify your deck size by measuring blade tip to blade tip (48 inches) or check the deck tag.
OEM cross-reference: Replaces OEM part numbers GX21784 (primary belt) and GX21833 (secondary belt). Do not assume fitment if your tractor uses different OEM belt numbers—measure your existing belts or compare lengths.
Aftermarket note: This is an 8TEN-branded aftermarket set, not genuine John Deere. Belts may be slightly stiffer out of the box but are generally dimensionally identical.
Key Things to Know
- Installation difficulty: Moderate. You must remove the blade spindle pulleys to route the secondary belt. A pulley puller is recommended; a pry bar can damage bearings.
- Belt orientation: The secondary belt (shorter one) has a directional arrow. Install with arrow pointing in the direction of spindle rotation (clockwise when viewed from above).
- Break-in period: New belts may squeal briefly during the first 30 minutes of use. If squealing persists, check belt tension and pulley alignment.
- Deck removal helpful: While not strictly required, removing the deck makes belt routing much easier. Plan for 45–90 minutes total.
Should You Buy It
If your 48-inch John Deere deck belts are worn, cracked, or slipping, this kit is a solid mid-range option—cheaper than OEM, but with verified dimensions and decent reviews. It’s best for DIY owners who want a complete belt refresh without buying two separate parts. Skip it if you prefer genuine John Deere belts or need belts for a different deck size.
