What It Is

This is a 2-pack of PRM 46-inch mulching blades designed for zero-turn mowers and riding tractors with 46-inch cutting decks. They replace OEM blades to finely chop grass clippings for nutrient recycling, ideal for frequent mowing without bagging.

Fitment & Compatibility

Before buying, verify three things:

  • Deck size: Must be exactly 46 inches—measure center spindle to spindle. Blades are 46" tip-to-tip.
  • Brand/model: Fits most popular 46" decks (e.g., Husqvarna, Craftsman, John Deere, Troy-Bilt, Poulan Pro). Check your mower’s blade part number against PRM’s compatibility list (often replaces OEM #532166259, 532140581, etc.).
  • Center hole: Typically 5-point star or 7/8" round. Measure your old blade’s center hole and spindle pattern. PRM uses a universal star design—won’t fit oddball spindles (e.g., some older Snapper models).
  • Thickness: PRM blades are 0.25" thick. If your OEM blades are thicker (e.g., 0.313"), they may not sit flush or balance correctly.

Key Things to Know

  • Quality: Heat-treated steel with a black powder coating for rust resistance. Edges are sharp out of the box but may need light honing for optimal performance.
  • Installation: Torque bolts to 70-90 ft-lbs. Use a blade removal tool—never hand-tighten. Check for spindle damage or bent shafts before mounting.
  • Lift vs. mulching: These have a higher lift angle than standard blades, so they create more suction. On wet grass, they may clog more; run dry, sharp blades only.
  • Balance: PRM blades are typically pre-balanced, but always spin-check on a balancer. Even slight imbalance causes vibration and spindle wear.

Should You Buy It

Buy these if you have a common 46" residential zero-turn or tractor deck, want a durable, budget-friendly mulching alternative to OEM blades, and mow regularly (not overgrown weeds). Skip if your deck uses odd-size spindles or you need a dedicated bagging or high-lift blade for leaf collection.
