What It Is

This is a 2-pack of high-lift replacement blades designed to improve grass clipping discharge and bagging performance on 42-inch deck mowers. They are intended for Troy-Bilt, Cub Cadet, MTD, and Craftsman LT series tractors with a 42" cutting deck.

Fitment & Compatibility

Before buying, confirm your mower has a 42-inch deck and uses OEM part numbers 742-04308, 942-04308, 942-04308A, 742-04312, 942-04312, or 119-8456. These blades also fit Craftsman LT1000, LT2000, and LT3000 models with 42" decks. Measure your existing blade: these are 20.5 inches long with a 1-inch center hole and 5-point star center pattern. They are aftermarket, not OEM Cub Cadet, so verify your spindle assembly matches the star pattern—some older MTD spindles use a different hole shape. Check that your deck is not a 46" or 54" model; those require different blade lengths.

Key Things to Know

  • High-lift design increases airflow for better bagging and side discharge, but creates more drag—expect slightly reduced engine RPM under load and possibly more wear on belts.
  • Installation difficulty is low if you have a socket wrench and blade removal tool. Torque blade bolts to 70-80 ft-lbs; overtightening can warp the blade or strip the spindle.
  • Common gotcha: the star pattern may not fit all MTD spindles. If your mower uses a round center hole with two offset pins, these blades won’t work.
  • Sharpness out of box is decent but not premium; consider sharpening after first use for optimal cut quality.

Should You Buy It

Buy this if you have a 42" deck Troy-Bilt, Cub Cadet, MTD, or Craftsman LT mower that matches the OEM numbers, and you want better bagging or discharge performance at a lower price than OEM blades. Skip it if your mower uses a round center hole or you need a standard lift blade for mulching—these are high-lift only.
